I'm a stay-at-home mom to four kids—three boys and one girl—and I'm married to Derek, who's a self-employed builder. I’m originally from Malahide, Dublin, but we’ve been living in Monasterboice for over 18 years now and absolutely love the peaceful countryside life. I used to work in Accounts, but recently decided to try something new and get into hosting. I really enjoy making people feel welcome and hope to offer a lovely spot where you can relax, recharge, and enjoy the slower pace of country living. In my free time, I love heading to the beach for a walk—it’s my favourite way to unwind. Looking forward to hopefully hosting you soon!
We purchased Redgap Cottage six years ago when it was in a derelict state. The roof was leaking, there was no central heating—just fireplaces in each room—and there were no toilets or wash areas.Last year, we decided to take the plunge and renovate the cottage ourselves. In doing so, we made a conscious effort to preserve as much of the original character as possible, particularly the stonework. Much of it had been covered up with lime render, concealing the stone both inside and outside the house. With a lot of hard work, we managed to restore it to what it looks like today. The cottage is over 200 years old and was one of 12 homes built in the area. Most of the families living here were farmers, and while some of the barns still stand, sadly, Redgap is the only house left. The name "Redgap" itself comes from a local legend about a battle so bloody that the area became known for the bloodshed, which gave the place its name.
